What is manual (compressed-air) sandblasting?

Manual blasting equipment works with compressed air or water and is highly flexible. The abrasive is propelled through specialised nozzles, based either on the injector principle or on pressure.

When is manual blasting used?

• preparing and cleaning surfaces before painting;
• removing imperfections;
• obtaining a satin finish;
• improving adhesion by increasing roughness;
• creating decorative patterns.

Advantages

It can treat interior surfaces or specific zones, adapts to unusual or large parts, and ranges from simple to fully automated configurations.

Angle and distance matter more than you think

Two parameters the operator controls directly, and almost nobody checks:

• optimum angle: 60° to the surface — not perpendicular, as instinct suggests
• optimum distance: 600 mm from nozzle to part

Straight on, particles bounce back into the incoming jet and slow it down. At 60° they strike and sweep, and the debris is pushed clear.

Too close, the jet concentrates and marks the surface. Too far, the particles have already lost speed and clean less for the same air and abrasive.
